Special Award for Special Olympics Athlete

Pictured is Special Olympics athlete Carina McCauley, from Letterkenny in Co Donegal, being presented with her Irish Examiner Sports Award for 2003 by Tom Murphy, CEO, Irish Examiner. Carina received her Irish Examiner Sports Award for 2003 at a gala event in the Burlington Hotel on Thursday, March 18 last (which co-incidentally was Carina’s 18th birthday!). Carina has many accomplishments in sports including winning a bronze medal in the 200m event in Kayaking at the World Games last year.

As well as being an all rounder in sport, Carina is a member of the first ever ladies 7-a-side football team to represent Ireland in a European football tournament.  The Special Olympics European Football Tournament 2004 will be held in Ettlebruck, Luxembourg from May 28 to June 1.  Photo Credit: Irish Examiner
